As recently outlined, the Preseason will involve an extensive gameplay update that we think will make League of Legends even better. To give you insight into the many changes youll be seeing, were holding aReddit AMA this Friday, beginning at 11:30 AM Pacific Time. Join the designers behind the preseason changes as they answer your most burning questions about changes to items, masteries, the jungle, and more.
Xypherous has yet again posted another item preview today. If you missed this rather big one, you can find the full post here.
Twisted Fate stuns 3 people. (he also applies stacked deck to all 3…but seriously, a 2 second AoE stun on a 6 second cd? [AND he gets 15% cdr free])
Pick a Card and Stacked Decked are not on-hit effects. They are next-attack modifiers and do not work with Hurricane.
A good rule of thumb is: ‘If I have more attack speed, do I get to apply this effect more often?’ If the answer is no, it doesn’t work with Hurricane.
The key distinction is whether it affects only one autoattack or not - these secondary bolts are not considered part of that “spell.” They only enhance what would enhance all of your basic attacks.
Frost Shot
This works fine.
How does this work with Ricochet?
Richochet is a next-attack modifier - and thus won’t work with Hurricane.
Again, the attack speed test holds true - ‘If I get more attack speed, will I get more procs?’ If the answer is no, then Hurricane won’t work with it.
Would this apply Draven’s passive if he is attacking with a spinning axe?
Nope. Spinning Axe is a next-hit modifier.
Malady
Yes.
Righteous Fury
Now that I think about it - this doesn’t, mostly because Kayle is this instant autoattack thing that gets really desync’ed with actual Hurricane shots.
o, uh, hypothetically speaking… can I get three power chords at once? ;D
Nope. Sona’s Power Chord affects your next attack - but isn’t an enchantment over all attacks.
As you noted in your original post, Riot has apparently picked specific champion abilities that this item does not have an effect on. How is the user supposed to know thatVayne’s silver bolts do not work, but Varus’s blighted stacks do, without testing it themselves or referencing your original post?
Vayne is a very special case - as if Hurricane worked with Silver Bolts - Vayne would never get a Silver Bolts proc ever gain.
If it becomes a major problem we’ll just have to be more careful on tooltips and labelling with Hurricane. It’s a problem that’s been solved before. Hurricane is essentially an ‘On Attack, fires 3 bolts that apply all your On Striking’ modifiers, in Diablo 2 parlance, so I know it’s solveable.
Caitlyn / Kennen’s W
Caitlyn and Kennen will both charge their passives up faster, but when their passives are charged, they get an auto-attack enhancer for one attack.
So essentially, headshot and Kennen’ special marking shuriken will charge much more quickly - but they’ll still only fire one special shot to their primary target.
How does it work with Lulu Passive?
Lulu’s passive doesn’t interact with this item at all, but it follows the same rules.
Whatever would cause Pix to fire secondary bolts will also cause Hurricane to fire secondary bolts.
1. what about twitch…. does it apply his passive or not. If not..thats a giant load of ****
2. That sad moment when you realize this gives graves a 100% attack speed bonus at all times pretty much. Yay for graves soraka lane being even stronger then before.. -.-
3. As the person above me stated…Yes, what about teemos toxic shot? will it apply teemos E or not?
Twitch’s passive applies to every autoattack he makes and thus Hurricane’s passive will applyTwitch’s Poison.
Similarly with Teemo.
Actually, let me just run down the list of ranged champions, that might be faster:
Ashe: Frost arrow works, as it applies to every autoattack.
Caitlyn: Headshot charges faster because it applies to every autoattack but she still only fires one empowered headshot per attack when she has it ready.
Corki: Passive works, as it applies to every autoattack.
Draven: Q and Passive both don’t work, as they don’t apply to every autoattack. The passive requires the attack to critically strike which Hurricane bolts can’t.
Ezreal: Has no on-hit effects.
Graves: E is an on-hit effect and thus E’s cooldown will shorten each time he hits something with a Hurricane bolt.
Jayce: Jayce’s passives will only apply to his primary target, as it is a attack modifier that only applies once.
Kayle: Doesn’t work - but that’s mostly due to the fact that her autoattack is an instant attack and thus the AoE field doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense coming from the secondary bolts. I’ll probably have to work on this one.
Kennen: ‘W’ charges faster as that applies to every autoattack - but the actual empowered shuriken only affects one additional target as that applies only once.
Kog’Maw: ‘W’ applies to each target hit, currently.
Lulu: Zero interactions
Miss Fortune: ‘W’ will stack up and apply grievous wounds to everyone hit by Hurricane Shots, as they apply to all her autoattack in a short duration.
Orianna: Orianna’s passive applies to everyone hit - although she will never be able to make ‘consecutive’ attacks against the same target due to hitting multiple people at a time.
Sivir: Sivir’s ‘W’ does not work with Hurricane, as it is an attack enhancer that only triggers once.
Sona; Power chord does not work with Hurricane, as it is an attack enhancer that only triggers once.
Teemo: Toxic shot will work on Hurricane bolts, as it toxic shot applies to every autoattack.
Tristanna: Explosive shot will work on Hurricane bolts, as it is a passive that applies to every autoattack.
Twitch: Twitch’s posion will work on Hurricane bolts, as it is a passive applies to every autoattack.
Twisted Fate: Neither Pick a Card or Stacked Deck will work with Hurricane, as they are passives that apply to one autoattack. Stacked Deck will however, charge much more quickly as the charging happens every autoattack.
Urgot: Urgot’s passive will work on Hurricane bolts, as it is a passive that applies to every autoattack.
Varus: Blighted Quiver will work on Hurricne bolts, as it is a passive that applies to every autoattack.
Vayne: Vayne’s Silver Bolts are specially coded to not work with Hurricane, as if silver bolts did work with Hurricane, she would never get a Silver Bolts proc ever again. (Because Silver Bolts has a consecutive target restriction.)
Ziggs: ZIgg’s Passive will not work on Hurricane bolts, as it is an attack enhancer that only affects one autoattack.
IMO, the correct way to deal with this is to remove the Silver Bolts single target restriction and let Vayne stack it on multiple targets instead of losing it the way she does now.
Then it would be like every other on-hit effect instead of following arbitrary rules of its own.
And then you’d have to nerf Vayne because Silver Bolts’ balance depends on the fact that if you disengage from Vayne, she will require additional work to Silver Bolts to trigger on a teammate.
It’d also destroy Vayne’s feel of a single target assassin - so I can’t agree with you here.
You missed Lux in that list, (i know this item would NEVER be viable for her anyway) but would it detonate her passive on multiple enemies that have it on them?
Oh yes, Lux should detonate her passive on multiple enemies that have it - but Hurricane would be awful on her. XD
If I’m shooting Target A as my primary, but there’s a Target B next to him with a thornmail. Do I still take the thornmail damage?
Yes.
Isn’t that just suboptimal coding?
No - It’s just a special case because Vayne’s silver bolts has a very specific ‘consecutive hits or else reset’ mechanic.
So… What about ranges? Particularly, how will it interact with twitch’s ult?
It’ll shoot things near the target of your primary attack.
Can you dodge/block/parry (jax, pantheon and fiora respectively) the bolts?
Do they trigger the damage reflection from annies molten shield and rammus defensive ball curl?
Is the range the same as the autoattack of the champion using it or is it a set range?
How do they choose their targets? Priority to champions or closest targets?
Everything that triggers from getting hit by a basic attack will trigger by getting hit from Hurricane, so yes on Dodge/Block/Parry/Molten Shield/DBC.
The range is roughly the same as the autoattack of the champion using it (it seeks out nearby units to the left and right of your target)
They choose their targets by closest around your target.
I understand how twitch’s passive works with this item…
but how does his Ultimate interact with it?
It doesn’t really interact with it at all. Hurricane merely shoots secondary bolts at units around what you right-click. The fact that his autoattack is now piercing doesn’t make Hurricane shots piercing.
So according to your statements, Lulu’s passive is the only instance where you’re attack speed test fails on determining how this works, because attacking more withlulu does allow you more pix bolts but using the hurricane on lulu does not cause pix to fire three times at once.
Right, because Pixis not an on-hit effect and in fact uses the same rules as Hurricane in determining when *it* fires. Pix triggers when you attack, not when you hit thus it has no interactions with Hurricane whatsoever.
I know you guys do extensive testing and whatnot….but does this not just seem a tiny bit TOO good? It’s practically a must buy for anyone that could benefit from it.
It’s actually proven to be only situationally good in testing - mostly because you don’t actually get better at single target damage much when building it and the build path is nothing but raw attack speed - which leaves you vulnerable a lot of the time.
Fitting Hurricane into a successful build is a lot harder than you think, simply because buying raw attack speed isn’t always a good option.
Does lifesteal also work with the hurricane?
Yeah, but off the reduced % value.
Maybe it’s not fair to think of this as a buff for AD carries in team fights. But that’s how I’m thinking of it, and it doesn’t seem like they need it. I hope there’s been some serious play testing, because I’m envisioning more AD carry pentakills and more, faster surrenders.
Yes - this is probably true. Which is why we’re doing these item additions in pre-season. If we’ve found that any particular item warps the game around it - we’ll either retune the item or remove the item for the sake of a healthier game.
However, this is exactly the time to try crazy and risky stuff that gets people excited about itemization and specializing their builds. We owe it to you guys to try to put in awesome stuff that’ll make your play experience more fun and if it doesn’t work - we also owe it to you guys to apologize and pull it and try to come up with equally fun stuff.
In short, your feedback will tell us which of these items are healthy and which of these items are evil.
Is there any hesitation on allowing Teemos Toxic shot and Twitch’s Venom to apply to 3 targets in a teamfight? AP/AS teemo could nearly waste an entire team with this effect and 3 target max stack expunge is gonna be pure satanic to deal with.
Yes, there is quite a bit of hesitation. However, this is the perfect time to try things that are.. well.. crazy and might not work in the long run.
Which is?
Here on Live we have no precedent for this. (Except yesterdays item preview, but there was no mention of that being a global aoe lifesteal standard.)
Oh, I mean, since the secondary bolts only deal a % of your total attack damage and it only life leeches based off the damage dealt, the secondary bolts will typically drain far less than your main attack will.
Life Steal will still work on the full value.
How does it work for Phage? I assume each bolt has it’s own proc chance, but it could oddly be based on the main attacks proc.
Do the additional bolts trigger Warden’s Mail, Thornmail, etc?
Phage checks each time. The bolts will trigger all the secondary effects like Warden’s Mail and Thornmail - so if you suspect the opposing carry is going Hurricane - you may want to scatter one or two “revenge” style passives in your item build across your team.
So is this lvl 1 Base Range, or after Modifiers? Like will Kog have the potential for 700+ range on the effect and Tristana for whatever she gets? Or will it take into account just the unchanged values?
After modifiers.
Question about how this interacts with the new manamune:
-does it get procced at all?
-if it does, do each bolt cost you mana (effectively trippling mana cost of the toggle)?
Hurricane + Manamune = Very very very expensive for your mana pool.
So wouldn’t this Item be hard countered by Thornmail. Everyone buys it and you pretty much kill yourself?
It depends. Thornmail deals damage based on pre-mitigation dealt to you - so yes, attacking into a Thornmail crowd will probably hurt quite a bit.
How does this work with Blade of the Ruined King? I’m currently imagining a level 9 Kog who has Hurricane and BoRK, and… well… he’s scary.
Also, you’ve said that Kog is ‘currently’ using his W with all three bolts. Is this currently very strong? Are you considering changing it?
Yes, BoRK + Hurricane has traditionally proven very very strong. As for Kog’maw - we’ll have to see, as I think we might be able to put Hurricane in a spot where it’s good on him - but in a lot of cases, a ranged carry wants to obliterate a single target as fast as possible.
Try things EXCEPT Hurricane + Tiamat, right?
I think you should put this somewhere in your posts because right now they seem to work together, by everything you’ve said.
Also, try not to put too many of these random rules everywhere (“Ok so tiamat works onvayne, but hurricane doesn’t..and if I get hurriance on cait then I don’t want to get Tiamat…etc.). They help balance and are nice but it seems like you might be adding giant burden of knowledge to the game which is something you guys seemed pretty against in years past.
Well, Hurricane is Ranged only and Tiamat is melee only - so.. I’m pretty sure you can figure it out.
So will it apply Frozen Mallet and not phage?
I’m a little confused on that item.
It’ll apply Frozen Mallet.
Phage will do a roll for each target hit and slow each target based on their individual rolls.
Confused with Graves interaction. Atm each AA reduces cooldown by just 1 second but you’ve implied the item reduces the cooldown by 6 seconds (3 hit x 2 secs).
With on-hit effects like wits end and Blade of the Ruined King do they do their full damage? How does Sheen interact with Hurricane? Do you see this as another item to help out on-hit builds or might it be a trap item on such builds?
Does lifesteal proc off of the extra shots?
My bad entirely on Graves. For some reason I kept thinking Quick Draw was 2 per attack, and not 1.
Wit’s End and BoRK do their full damage.
Sheen only applies to one target, and thus only your main attack will trigger Sheen.
Life Steal does proc off the extra shots, as life steal works on anything that is applies on-hit effects.
Will there be a toggle option for this item for occasions such as everyone having these “revenge” style items?
Not at the moment, no.
Really confused on how Hurricane prioritizes targets. Do they have to be near the primary target
They have to be within (roughly) 300 units of your primary target.
Imagine Hurricane being a splash effect - that can only affect the two closest targets.
Now, theoretically with this item, aren’t you buffing lifesteal?
If I have 25% lifesteal and deal 100% damage to my primary target and 100% split two ways onto two other enemies, I’m going to be lifestealing off of 50% of my attacks.
Kind of. The problem comes in when you factor in infinity edge and critical strike - as those only apply to your main attack.
So, if you go the typical IE/PD build with critical strikes, these secondary bolts are going to be far less than 50% of your average main attack damage.
If you go raw Hurricane / BT, builds for example - you will be life stealing more - at the cost of not taking advantage of the multiplicative power of critical strike and critical damage for the multiplicative power of Area of Effect attacks.
Basically - do you want to hit everyone a lot of times for a moderate amount of damage? Or do you want to hit one person a few times for tons of damage? But in the end, the amount you life steal actually kind of ends up to be around the same.
Will the Hurricanes extra shot prioritize champions?
Nope.
What about Gangplank Parrrley?
As i remember GP is coded that parrrley is melee but is in fact a range spell.
I think it won’t work but will work with the new Tiamat but i would like to know :3
No.
One, Parley is a spell which won’t trigger Hurricane anyway as Hurricane triggers off your basic attacks.
Two, Gangplank himself is Melee - so Hurricane won’t be active on him.
tons amounts of damage
The forums move too fast for me to properly edit and type at the speed at which I’m doing. :P
But what is going to happen if your enemies are vertically lined up?
Look at the diagram below:
This case gets weird and odd - but in general, it should hit all of them (A,B,C) if you targetted B.
will this apply to turrets?
No - Attacking turrets would draw aggro if there was a champion nearby, so attacking turrets doesn’t trigger Hurricane.
What? Lifesteal does not work on any on-hit effect except trinity/sheen/lichbane. Do you mean to say that it procs lifesteal, because lifesteal is an on-hit, which the extra shots proc?
Sorry - I meant to say Life steal works on anything that applies on-hit effects. Which is exactly what you’ve stated. My bad.
how would it hit X?
X is the user of Hurricane from what I gathered, so hopefully it wouldn’t hit X.
I gotta ask then, has the itemization on the Current IE/PD/BT trinity been changed enough for champions other then potential abusers (like Twitch and Teemo) to want to take it?
I see nothing wrong with IE/PD/BT trinity being core on a lot of carries. It’s a simple, powerful and very effective play style that solidly states that you are focused on dealing as much single target damage. Just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean it’s bad (outside of the fact that PD makes you super fast, negating the need for defensive options a lot of the times.)
Hurricane simply offers you the option of becoming more Multi-Target focused, rather than Single-target focused, if you decide that’s worth doing for your character.
x3 mana cost for triple slow?
Right now, it would.
Although, I suppose if you read Frost Shot directly, it does say X mana per Attack, not X mana per Hit. Might be worth revisiting.
